It is with great joy that I welcome each of you to the start of the 2025–2026 academic year at the University of Illinois School of Music. Already, our classrooms, rehearsal halls, and performance spaces are alive with activity—echoing with discovery, collaboration, and the constant presence of music.
To our returning students: your ongoing dedication, discipline, and artistry form the bedrock of our School’s excellence. This year, I encourage you to continue pushing boundaries—explore more deeply, take creative risks, and let your curiosity propel you toward new achievements.
To our new students: welcome to our vibrant music community! You bring fresh energy and new perspectives that enrich us all. As you begin your journey here, know that you are joining a tradition of scholarship, creativity, and performance that will shape not only your musicianship but also your resilience and character. Our faculty are eager to guide, challenge, and inspire you—so take every opportunity to learn, ask questions, and grow alongside your peers.
This year will be filled with masterclasses, seminars, guest artists, rehearsals, and performances—moments that will deepen our craft and connect us as musicians and scholars. But just as important, let us nurture the bonds beyond the notes: celebrate one another’s successes, lend support during challenges, and value the diverse backgrounds and passions that make our School unique. Together, let us embrace both triumphs and setbacks as part of the artistic journey, knowing each contributes to growth.
As Director, I am honored to serve alongside you.
