The School of Music is proud to share exciting news about harpist Noël Wan 萬依慈 (BM ’14, DMA ’20), an alumna of Illinois and recipient of the 2025 FAA Emerging Legacy Award.
Wan has been appointed to the Performance Faculty at The Curtis Institute of Music for the 2025–2026 academic year. In this new role, she will join one of the world’s most prestigious conservatories while continuing her appointment at Florida State University, where she teaches harp and entrepreneurship.
A student of Professor Ann Yeung, Wan is a Taiwanese-American harpist and interdisciplinary scholar. Celebrated for her charismatic artistry and genre-crossing virtuosity, she has won major international competitions—including the 2023 Astral Artists National Competition, 2022 USA International Harp Competition, and 2010 World Harp Competition—and performs actively around the world. She also integrates performance with scholarly research on gender, sound, and performance practice. Her current project explores embodiment and digital sound creation through the electroacoustic harp.
