- Solo (to be performed without piano):
- Guilmant – Morceau Symphonique, Op. 88 (complete)
- Etude:
- One etude of applicant’s choice from Bordogni
- Orchestral Excerpts (B.M. applicants: all five excerpts; B.M.E: choose three):
- Mozart – Requiem, Tuba mirum
- Berlioz – Hungarian March
- Rossini – Overture to La Gazza Ladra
- Saint-Saens – Symphony No. 3 (Organ)
- Wagner – Ride of the Valkyries (minor and major sections)
Graduate – Tenor Trombone Audition Requirements:
Prescreening:
- Solo (to be performed without piano): Martin – Ballade for Trombone (beginning to rehearsal 6)
- Orchestral Excerpts:
- Mozart – Requiem, Tuba mirum
- Ravel – Bolero
- Rossini – Overture to La Gazza Ladra
- Saint-Saens – Symphony No. 3 “Organ”
- Wagner – Ride of the Valkyries(minor and major sections)
Live Audition:
- Solo (to be performed without piano): Martin – Ballade for Trombone (complete)
- Etude: One etude of choice from either Bitsch, Boutry, or Bozza
- Orchestral Excerpts:

Bass Trombone
Undergraduate – Bass Trombone Audition Requirements:
- Solo (to be performed without piano):
- Lebedev – Concerto in One movement (complete)
- Etude:
- One etude of applicant’s choice from Bordogni (down an octave if from a tenor version)
- Orchestral Excerpts (B.M. applicants: all five excerpts; B.M.E: choose three):
- Bach – Sarabande from the Fifth Cello Suite
- Berlioz – Hungarian March
- Haydn – The Creation, No. 26
- Wagner – Entrance of the Gods into Valhalla from Das Rheingold
- Wagner – Ride of the Valkyries (minor and major sections)

Recorded Audition Information
Undergraduate Recorded Audition:
It is highly recommended that all undergraduate candidates in the State of Illinois attend an on-campus audition. If an applicant is unable to travel to campus for a live audition, the faculty will accept a recorded audition, and a virtual interview may occur. Undergraduate applicants who would like to submit a recorded audition should upload the audition here.
Graduate Recorded Audition:
It is highly recommended that all graduate candidates who pass the pre-screening requirement attend an on-campus audition. Graduate applicants who would like to submit a recorded audition should upload the audition directly to their Graduate College application.
