Bachelor of Musical Arts, Lyric Theatre

Lyric Theatre @ Illinois is a comprehensive program embracing a broad continuum of opera and musical theatre to reflect the artistic demands of the 21st-century musical stage, on which performers must exhibit the highest standards of singing, acting and movement. Valuing above all flexibility, creativity, and wellness, the faculty works closely with each student to develop their own artistic strengths which can include composition, direction, conducting, producing, and more, in addition to performance.

Talent Requirements for Application

Application to the Bachelor of Musical Arts in Lyric Theatre requires an audition. Applicants can select their audition preference on the Music Supplement (sent 24-28 hours after submitting the University/Common application). Specific audition requirements can be found by visiting the link below.

About the Bachelor of Musical Arts, Lyric Theatre

The Lyric Theatre curriculum includes substantial acting and dance instruction, and trains the singing actor in repertoire and techniques of all genres of sung theater. Lyric Theatre also allows students the opportunity to focus on theatrical composition, directing, or writing for the stage.

Lyric Theatre faculty work closely with students to develop their unique concentration for their final two years of the program. Examples include musical theatre performance, stage direction, arts leadership and production, theatrical composition, operatic performance, and music direction.
