CS + Music prepares students for careers in digital audio synthesis production, music and AI, and music application/plug-in design. Additionally, CS + Music students can take courses in music technology and composition.

Talent Requirements for Application

  1. Personal Statement: Applicants must submit an essay or personal statement (approximately 300-500 words) that includes a summary of academic achievements in music, computer science, and/or related areas, a description of interests and experiences relevant to the degree program, significant accomplishments, and career goals.
  2. Portfolio: Applicants must submit an online portfolio that demonstrates their experience and readiness for the CS + Music degree. The portfolio should be viewed as an opportunity to provide a greater sense of depth beyond grades and test scores, by documenting the applicant’s unique strengths, demonstrating potential for continued growth and success, and showcasing activities, interests, and accomplishments relevant to the CS + Music program. While there is no “typical” portfolio, most portfolios contain approximately 3-5 items. Portfolio items may include (but are not limited to) music compositions, recordings, performance videos, websites, games or apps you’ve developed, code project repositories, etc.
    • Important Guidelines for Portfolio Submission
      • Your portfolio submission must be a single text document (in doc or pdf format) that contains descriptive information for each portfolio item, along with one or more links to external sites (such as a Google Drive) where the materials themselves are hosted. If possible, all materials should be viewable/playable in a web browser without requiring a file download.
      • If your application includes code-based projects, you may link to the code repository directly (e.g., a GitHub project), but the applicant is strongly encouraged to also provide links to a short video or series of image files that showcase the project in action.
  3. Interview: Interview by invitation only.
