Illinois Young Composer Contest

Eligibility:

  • This contest is open to high school composers of original music in any of the following categories:
    • Electronic Music; Mp3 or mp4 files are accepted for all categories, but students are encouraged to submit musical scores
    • Instrumental Concert Music, open instrumentation.
  • Entrants must reside in the State of Illinois.
  • One entry per person.

Electronic and/or recorded music: Scores are optional, recording required.

Instrumental Concert Music: Scores may include any instrumental/vocal combination.

Scores and recordings will be reviewed by the University of Illinois School of Music faculty members.

DATES:

  • Applications open October 1, 2025
  • Deadline for entry is January 15, 2026
  • Winners will be announced by February 15, 2026

Prizes:

First Prize: $150
Second Prize: $100
Third Prize: $50

Complete the application form below. Once you submit the application form, you will receive an email with a link to upload your file(s). Be sure to include your name in the filenames for each submission.
